Paternal Ancestors

My father's parents were long gone by the time I was born, and it has taken much effort (mostly by my sister) to trace his line. It turns out that my father's father, Thomas Morrison, was born in Lennoxtown, Stirlingshire, late in 1875. His father, also Thomas, was born in 1831 and died in 1897. He was a son of one Duncan Morrison, a master tailor, who is buried at Clachan of Campsie and who was born in 1785 to Daniel (or Donald) Morrison and Elizabeth McKenzie in Comrie, Perthshire. He was married to Agnes Dow (c1799-1869), who was born at Muckairn, Argyllshire.

My great-grandmother on that side was Isabella Kincaid (1840-89) and her husband, Thomas Morrison was Clerk at the Dalglish & Falconer calico printing works in Lennoxtown,

My father's mother, Jessie Ann Ogilvy Annand Young (above), had an ancestry neatly summed up in her lengthy name. Her parents farmed at Balmyle, near Meigle.

Graveslab of my great-great-grandparents, David Ogilvy and Janet Annand, at Lintrathen Kirk. Their ancestors had lived in the Lintrathen area for centuries, merrily interbreeding. David farmed at Peel, now a visitor centre, and left a substantial amount of money when he died in 1866.

This line of ancestry involves the Farquharsons of Ravernie, in Glenisla

- Martha Farquharson and John Annand. Martha was baptised on 12 April 1735, the daughter of John Farquharson and Janet Wright who were married at Lintrathen on 14 March 1734. They moved to Lintrathen about 1765 where John was a farmer in Formal.

The line can be traced back to Findlay Farquharson and Katherine Ogilvy who were in Ravernie circa 1575 to 1651. Findlay was the son of Robert Farquharson of Dalroddie circa 1530 circa 1610 and Marjory Robertson. Robert was the second son of Finlay Mor Farquahrson circa 1487- circa 1547 by his second wife, Beatrix Garden.
